Overall, Great Purchase

I didn't buy this scanner from Uniden; I did buy it from Bearcat Warehouse, though. With this review, I'll go over a few different topics and what the downsides and upsides are.

I bought the radio for $400, open box.

Overall/Final Thoughts

USABILITY:
At the start, I was very confused about how to use the radio and get around it. But after a little bit of manual browsing and a few Google searches later, I found out how to actually navigate the radio (adjust volume, squelch, system, etc). I'm still a little confused on what different symbols mean, but with more time, I will certainly have the whole thing memorized. Overall, usability isn't an issue, and I think it's pretty simple.

MANUAL:
The manual is long and of medium difficulty to understand. I think that some of the reviews I read describe it as "only a rocket scientist could read it" but that's really just not true. Anybody who knows at least a little bit about radio understands most of it. I could see an absolute beginner getting quite confused with it, though. Really, I would buy a simpler scanner first or get more educated before buying this scanner. I have a BC355N as well (that was my first scanner), and it certainly helped me understand how scanners work a lot better with no prior scanning experience, just a little GMRS/FRS operation.

BATTERY LIFE:
Okay, I've seen a lot of people talk about it, and I can certainly agree that the battery life could be better. If I were Uniden, I would've made it so you would need more batteries for this guy. I understand size constraints, but I think it'd be valid to make it a little bigger for more batteries. Battery life while scanning can be literally 2-3 hours, and if you're on one channel, you can get a good 5-6 hours. Keep it off if your not listening, keep a battery charger and some extra batteries on you. Takes two AAs.

SCANNING:
I don't use this feature a whole lot because I'm more of a stay on one channel kinda guy, but I haven't really found it very good. I think I am just using it wrong, though. My issue is that it won't stay on one county while I scan. Otherwise, it's fine.

PROGRAMMING:
I literally see no reason why people should spend extra money on "professional programming". Barebones computer knowledge and you're set. Literally all you need to do is get FreeScan, load it up, sign in to your RadioReference account, enter the country and county, select the channels you want, put it on the scanner, and repeat. I'm oversimplifying it a little but thats pretty much what it is. Programming it is simple and the extra cost isn't worth it.

OVERALL/FINAL THOUGHTS:
5/5 stars, certainly worth my money. Great for the budget. Of course, I would've preferred one of the SDSs, but I don't have that kinda money. Good for what it is, underrated scanner. Buy it. Also, if your not picking anything up, it's probably not the radios fault, its probably your fault.

Crazy expensive and terribly hard to program

Crazy expensive and terribly hard to program. Needs longer battery life. Seems to be working well. A basic easy to program scanner with good battery life would be much better. I would consider buying multiple scanners if I could find one with these features.

Awesome scanner

Really liking the scanner, don't get as much as I thought I would. Could be my programming or need a better antenna. Still a good scanner!
