Coming from an R7, the performance is extremely close. Both, to me, are the best on the market. The WiFi updating has made everything come together!
Have been pretty much an escort user for most of my life. Was thinking about an R4 for the distance you get with that unit but after watching lots of videos the R8 was just about as good. But went with R8W for the wifi updates worked as advertised. I have paired it with the R8 Companion App for my Apple Phone. Have been tweaking it based on what I have read on Vortex Radar's Webpage/Forum/Youtube channel. I was leaving Cincinnati last night heading home and Got a short KA Alert. Only to find out about 2.3 miles down the road was an Ohio State Trooper shooting radar. The unit ramped up nicely the closer I got to him and had more than enough time to adjust my speed as I was traveling with a bunch of drivers going North on I-75 beating the nightly traffic. Its too new for me to make any more judgements but its a solid unit for sure!
The only thing I could wish for is some kind of metal case much like the V1G2 Valentine 1 Gen 2. Don't get me wrong the case is fine just when I handle the V1G2 it just feels quality built. I do appreciate the nylon case they give you with it.
I plugged it in and it worked immediately and flawlessly, with little set up required. The window suction cup is sturdy and secure, and holds the detector in place without problems. I plan to read the entire manual when I get time to do so but was sure nice to just be plug-and play
I have a Ford Taurus SHO and a Dodge Challenger S RT 8 ,I live in a place where I’m the only one driving on the highway in either direction for many miles at a time across long smooth desert.highways. This radar detector alerts many miles before I can see any threats on the horizon. The remote mute button was well thought out.I am very happy with my purchase so far.
