When the Uniden SDS200 displays “Nothing to Scan,” it usually means no active channels or systems are currently selected. This is one of the most common setup questions among new users, and fortunately, it’s easy to fix once you understand the cause.

  • No Favorites List enabled: Ensure that at least one Favorites List is turned on in order to give the scanner active systems to monitor.
  • Service types not selected: Each channel has a service type (like Fire, EMS, or Weather). If none are enabled, the scanner won’t have anything to scan.
  • Location settings too restrictive: If location-based scanning is active but your range is set too narrow, broaden the range in order to include nearby systems.
  • Quick keys turned off: Verify that your system, department, and channel quick keys are enabled so that your scanner includes them in the scan cycle.
  • Database not loaded: Check that the main database or Favorites Lists are properly loaded through Sentinel and transferred to the SD card.
  • SD card issues: Corrupted or missing files on the SD card can also trigger this message — reformat and reload your lists if needed.
  • Firmware outdated: Updating firmware through Sentinel ensures compatibility and fixes common scanning errors.

No audio AGC - avoid

Channel volume offset is useless when different conversations on a given talkgroup are far apart from each other in volume. It's like constantly playing whack-a-mole without the prize as different radio users come and go. Uniden should put audio AGC in a firmware update but they never do. I guess they just don't know how and painted themselves into a corner. Don't get fooled by the hype. This radio is not a good buy.
