Disappointing App, third party apps are needed to get the most out of the unit. Update utility on Mac is useless and does not work. The unit sometimes is fails to switch arrows properly with know sources.
These are things I failed to research properly prior to purchasing.
Didn’t realize the laser units were not available for the non-W model. Also, they require dealer install. These are things I failed to learn before purchasing.
Overall, Uniden is probably a good company but these issues made this seem like a letdown.

Terrible customer service terrible product,
Came in terrible condition. Doesn’t work contact contacted the customer service to try to return it. They said you can’t return it under our policy. So now I’m stuck with something that doesn’t work.

Took this out on about a 1,000 mile roadtrip and seriously thinking about returning it. While it did ok at detecting actual police radars, it does an absolutely terrible job in reducing false positives. The radar sensor is constantly beeping- it’s the radar sensor that cries wolf. It became so obnoxious in urban and suburban areas that I shut it off. It’s so sensitive that everything sets it off and I don’t trust it. The technology feels like it’s 30 years old and can’t tell the difference between a cop, a gas station automatic door and a bat.

Can I pick up anything with this scanner. I wanted it preprogram but it didn’t offer it. I have another unidentified scanner I love it. This one was for a friend. It seems I wasted my money if I can’t get anything one it

Radar is great and works as it’s supposed to but the speaker is bad and I need to order a replacement already and DIY the speaker replacement. It’s loud on initial radar detection but gets quiet after 2-3 seconds even though volume is all the way up.

I updated from a uniden R7 to R8W to add uniden add on laser jammers that they decided not to do after saying that they were, save your money and stick with R7 no real difference in performance that I have seen,

The R/Tach App is next level when it comes to being user friendly!
So far so good. Have not had time to dive into all the settings but looking forward to doing that. Been on the highway a little and have picked up radar that surprised me how far away it picked up the signal. Very satisfied with my purchase.
Bought a refurbished unit, looks and performs as new. Mine has a newer 10-digit serial number.
My uniden has alerted me many times to cops up ahead and is easy and intuitive to use!

Awesome Radar Detector, I bought it to replace my R3. The arrows and super long range are awesome. As are the wireless updates and R/Tach interface app that make programming super easy. I chose this over the Valentine V1 Gen 2 because of the free updates for life and Dual Blackfin Signal Processor.
